Weight management is one of the more obvious reasons why an individual may wish to pursue a diet and exercise program.

Obesity, even amongst children is now one the fastest growing health problems, together with all of the implications for health – heart problems, diabetes etc. etc.

At the other extreme are those who are underweight or who would like to improve their body compostion (reduce fat and increase lean mass) for personal satisfaction, self-esteem and to feel more attractive.

Weight management is about matching the number of calories taken in from the diet with the number of calories used by the body in all of its functions and activities. In very simple terms if more calories are taken in than used then weight will increase  as the excess is stored and vice versa.

There are other considerations such as the timing of food and exercise and the types of food in the diet, all of which will have their effects, both on weight and on general health.
